This past weekend several local players traveled to play tournaments. In the Girls 18 Sectional Closed Cat Crummey got a tough draw when she had to face top seeded Jamie Loeb in her first match (Jamie won 6-0, 6-0). Cat had gotten a withdrawal due to an injury in the first round. Sarah Kandath powered her way through the draw beating Angela Assai 6-2, 6-1; Stephanie Loutsenko 6-2, 6-0; and Vanessa Pavia 6-2, 6-3 before losing in the finals to Jamie Loeb 6-2, 6-0. Sarah teamed with Vanessa Pavia in the doubles. They won in an exciting final 6-3, 4-6, 10-6 beating Gabrielle Sullivan and Kelly Williford.
Both Justin Hsu (Niskayuna) and Alexander Ferorov (Guilderland) played in the Bronx. Justin lost 6-2, 6-1 to jeremy Wei – the #3 seed after getting a walkover in the first round due to a player emergency. Alex won his first round by beating Stewart Whitman of Greenwich, CT 7-5, 6-3. His second round opponent Matt Leifer withdrew. Alex then had to play the top seed, Alex Thrane, who he lost to 6-4, 6-2.
Several area players are playing in the Sectional Championship tournaments next weekend including Max Benson and Michael Haelen in the 12′s, Sarah Kandath & Gabriela Peda – Girl’s 18′s.
