This weekend was the last designated championships before the Summer Nationals. The very top players in the Section play Hardcourts, Clay Courts, Zonals and Intersectionals. Only a few local players took to the courts to play tournaments. The next local tournament is June 25, 26 weekend at Colonie Golf and Country Club.
Although there is no Sectional Championships in the Boys 10′s there was a Level 1 tournament this weekend at The Hardscrabble Club in Brewster, NY. Ronan Jachuck won a close one over rival Kemal Aziz by a score of 3-6, 6-4, 10-6 and won the finals with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Suhas Vennam who he beat earlier this year. It was Ronan’s 2nd straight victory over Kemal, but lifetime they are 4-3 in favor of Kemal.
In the Boys 12′s, Albany’s Max Benson lost is three sets to Brian Schick 6-2, 2-6, 6-3 in last weekends qualifier. Michael Haelen also lost in the qualifiers, to the #12 seed – Pranav Krishnan, by a score of 6-2, 6-0.
In the Girls 12′s, Nisha Detchprohm lost in the Main Draw to 2nd seeded Lindsay Baum 6-2, 6-3. Nisha was also playing the L1 at Hardscrabble, instead of the Designated Closed.
