RPI Women go 1-1 for the Day

Women’s Tennis Fall to Mount Holyoke

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – Maya Sayarath (St. Johnsbury, Vt./St. Johnsbury Academy), Eman Malik and Sarah Moore (Plano, Texas/Plano East) each recorded victories at both singles and doubles to propel the Mount Holyoke College women’s tennis team to a convincing 8-1 triumph over RPI today at the Kendall Sports and Dance Complex Field House. It was the Lyons’ fifth victory of the season and their second in a row.

Mount Holyoke swept the three doubles matches to gain control in the early going. After an 8-1 triumph by Sayarath and Malik at the number three slot, Moore and AnnElizabeth Konkel (Camp Hill, Pa./Harrisburg Academy) picked up an 8-5 win in their number two tilt. Natalie Hsiang (Pittsford, N.Y./Allendale Columbia) and Nahrhee Han (Albertson, N.Y./Herricks) then closed things out with a 9-8 (7-0) triumph at the top spot.

The Lyons finished out the day with five singles wins. Sayarath, Malik and Kelsey Brower (Tuckerton, N.J./Pinelands Regional) each prevailed in straight sets, while Heather Richardson (Holden, Mass./Massachusetts Academy of Math & Science) and Moore split their first two sets before winning in third set super tiebreakers.

RPI’s lone point came from Jessica Sitzer (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Hills), who overcame an early deficit to defeat Nahrhee Han (Albertson, N.Y./Herricks) in a third set super tiebreaker.

Mount Holyoke (5-8, 3-4 NEWMAC) will return to action on Wednesday, when it visits Wesleyan University at 4:30 p.m. After travelling to Smith College later this afternoon, RPI (7-3, 0-0 LL) will host Springfield College on Sunday, April 17 at 10:30 a.m.

Women’s Tennis Upends Smith 5-1

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – Sophomore Brianna Dickie earned the win at both third singles and second doubles with partner Christina Ciamarra, to lead the Rensselaer women’s tennis team to a 5-1 victory over Smith College, this afternoon. With the win, the Engineers improve to 8-3 overall, while the Pioneers drop to 2-6.


Also earning a victory in the match for RPI was senior Jessica Sitzer (Rockaway, NJ/Morris Hills), who won at first singles (6-0, 6-0). Freshman Meghan Olsen (Rochester, NY/Penfield) paired up with graduate student Jeanette Carillo (Brooklyn, NY/Fontbonne Hall Academy) for the win at third doubles (8-2), before taking the fourth singles flight (7-5, 6-2).
