Siena Update

Head Coach Andy Christodoulou

Siena College Women stated the season with an invitational tournament, early in September.  The event was supposed to have 3 teams, full matches but Hofstra was unable to come this year due to damage done by Hurricane Irene.  That, plus the weekend forecast left Siena and Marist to play a shortened, pro set event.  Siena features former local high school standouts Jasleen Sandhu of Shaker, Jessica Macaluso of Shenendahowa and Nicole Ross of Shaker.  Siena Women’s Tennis announced the release of their Women’s Tennis Digital Yearbook – CLICK HERE

The Siena women’s tennis team played rival Marist even in its season-opener Saturday afternoon. The Saints and Red Foxes competed against each other in the round robin Siena Fall Classic in an early test for both programs.

“We expected a tough challenge, and that’s exactly what we got,” head coach Andy Christodoulou said. “This tournament gave us a good measurement where we are and what we need to work on moving forward. The freshmen responded well, and they are a fantastic addition to the team.”

In the A Flight singles, Siena’s Jasleen Sandhu held off Joana Sun 8-5, while Erin McCarthy edged the Saints’ Carly Holloway 9-7. Marist won both Flight B contests, but Siena rallied to win three of five contests at Flight C, with Cassie Braz, Brittany Filip and Elora Benfer all posting victories.

In doubles play, Marist won all four Flight A matches, while Siena held on for victories the both Flight B contests.
