The big local college tennis story of the tournament was Skidmore’s Oliver Loutsenko. Oliver was block seeded 5-8 (the 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th seeds are considered the same for seeding purposes). Oliver started out with a win against Greg Jacob of Mount Saint Mary’s (MSMC) by a score of 6-1, 6-0. Next was a win over Cruz (TCNJ) 6-3, 6-3, followed by a win over MYU’s Steven Wu 7-6 (9), 6-2. Then, on to top seed Andrew Guzik who Oliver beat 6-3, 6-1. In the semi finals, Oliver avenged teammate Jimmy Sherpa’s loss to Harveer Bhalla 7-6 (0), 6-4. He finally lost in the finals to Perepelov but put up a good fight. The final score was 6-4, 7-6 (4). I am not surprised to see Oliver do well, having seen him many times in the juniors and having coached him at zonals.
