SAINT ROSE DOUBLES UP FRANKLIN PIERCE

ALBANY, NY – The College of Saint Rose women’s tennis team won four of six singles matches en route to a 6-3 victory over the Franklin Pierce Ravens.

The Golden Knights got things off to a good start in first singles as junior Jennifer Crego downed Ravens sophomore Natasha McCarthy 6-4, 6-2. Moving up to third singles from her sixth spot last season, Saint Rose sophomore Stephanie Wilhelm was able to defeat Franklin Pierce senior Drew Alexander by a 6-3, 6-1 final.

Saint Rose also picked up impressive wins in fourth and fifth singles. At #4, junior Nicole Terribile earned a win against senior Nikki Chalifoux 6-0, 6-0. In the fifth slot, freshman Lauren Romine gained a three-set win in her collegiate debut, 6-2, 2-6, 6-2, over junior Melissa Cohen.

In doubles, the Golden Knights gained points in the second and third flight matches as Wilhelm and senior Erin Reeg topped Alexander and freshman Leslie Rodgers 8-2 while Romine and junior Sarah Klein defeated Chalifoux and Cohen in a tight match 8-6.

The Golden Knights next take to the courts on Saturday, September 24 at 1 p.m. when they face off against the Saint Anselm Hawks. Up next for the Ravens is their 2011-12 home opener as they take on New Haven at 1 p.m.

ALBANY, NY – The College of Saint Rose women’s tennis team was dealt a tough 6-3 loss to the visiting Saint Anselm Hawks.

Saint Rose saw a pair of players run their singles record to 2-0 on the season in the match. In the first flight, junior Jennifer Crego forced a first set tiebreaker before topping Alexandra Lawrence 7-6 (7-1), 6-1. At #4, junior Nicole Terribile earned a win against Rachel Pedro 6-4, 6-2.

The Golden Knights also gained a point at third flight doubles where juniors Terribile and Sarah Klein defeated Pedro and April Regan 8-4.

Saint Rose was edged out in a pair of matches that could have swung the tide the other way as in first flight doubles, Crego and senior Erin Reeg forced their match to go an extra game before falling to Lawrence and Amanda Brahm 9-7. At #6 singles, Klein battled Regan to the final shot before falling 8-6.

Next up for the Golden Knights is a date on Saturday, October 1 against Saint Michael’s at 11 a.m. at Kelton Courts. Saint Anselm gets no rest as they head west on the New York Thruway to take on Le Moyne in Syracuse tomorrow at 11 a.m.

ALBANY, NY – The College of Saint Rose women’s tennis team started off a two-match weekend with a 7-2 setback against the visiting Saint Michael’s Purple Knights.

Saint Rose earned both of their points on the day in first flight matches. In singles, junior Jennifer Crego improved her record to 3-0 on the season with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over freshman Caroline Toutoungi.

The Golden Knights also prevailed in first flight doubles where Crego and senior Erin Reeg downed Toutoungi and senior Emily Ogilvy 8-5.

Saint Rose wastes no time getting back to action as they will finish off the fall portion of their schedule taking on the New Haven Chargers on Sunday at 1 p.m. Saint Michael’s is also in action tomorrow as they head to Syracuse to take on Le Moyne at 10 a.m.

ALBANY – The College of Saint Rose women’s tennis team fell behind early before rallying to win the final singles match of the day, earning a 5-4 victory over the New Haven Chargers.

Saint Rose started the day off down a player, meaning that New Haven got two points right off the bat with walkover wins in sixth flight singles and third flight doubles. The Golden Knights rallied to knot the score at 4-4 with one match still on the court. In fourth flight singles junior Nicole Terribile was able to rise to the challenge, defeating freshman Melanie Johnson 6-4, 6-2.

The Golden Knights earned two more points on singles in the day. In the first flight match, junior Jennifer Crego improved her record to 4-0 on the season with a 6-0, 6-2 victory over freshman Lindsey Conley. In second flight singles, senior Erin Reeg topped freshman Brianna Kraynak 6-3, 6-2.

Saint Rose also earned wins in both doubles matches where they took the court. The duo of Crego and Reeg defeated Conley and Johnson 8-4. In a tight second flight match, Terribile and freshman Lauren Romine edged out Klaynak and freshman Jess MacPhee 8-6.

With the win, the Golden Knights wrapped up the fall portion of their schedule with a 2-2 record. New Haven will take to the court next on Wednesday when they face off against Bentley at 3:30 p.m. in New Haven, CT.
