York won the match 7-2 for their first win of the season. Against Clarion, Kacie played #3 and lost to Megan Bettwy 10-5. In doubles she played with Nicole Olsen. They lost 8-5 to Bettwy and Lauren Rhine. That leaves York at 1-2 for the fall campaign. The spring tennis season starts March 16th at Mary Washington.
Christine Cary (Selkirk) has had a busy Fall season at Nazareth College. First match was September 1st against Geneseo. Christine played #3 and lost to Shiho Sato 6-1, 6-1. We have the results of the William Smith Invitational in a previous posting on the blog so we go next to the Hartwick match. Not only did the team win, but Christine got her first victory in a dual match in both singles and doubles and was pictured on teams web page article. In singles, Megan Henson retired at 3-0 in the first set. Cara and Christine beat Kim Willet and Nicole Schepisi 8-4. Then, on to Alfred and a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Brennan Ferguson and a 8-5 victory over Ferguson and Shannon Tovey. The team continued their winning ways at Elmira as Christine topped Melanie Walker 6-0, 6-2 and,in the doubles, Amy Schmidt along with Walker (8-4). Christine did not qualify for the ITA Regionals as Nazareth only had one player for singles and one doubles team. We will cover that event in a later blog posting. There were several players of local interest there. Next was St. John’s Fisher, a crosstown rival. Nazareth won the match and Christine won her #3 singles match against Marissa Rotondo 6-2, 6-2. They lost the doubles to Jordan Brungard and Kathryn Pasier 8-3. The Ithaca Bombers proved too much for Nazareth and Christine as Becky Guzzo of Ithaca beat Christine 5-7, 6-1, 6-3. Christine and Cara managed a win in the doubles over Becky Campbell and Carly Siegel 8-4. The last match I am reporting on for this posting is a 9-0 drubbing of Utica by Nazareth. Christine beat Heather Brisson 6-1, 6-0. Christine and Cara did not play doubles in the Utica match as Nazareth played some of it’s other players. I will post results for the New York State tournament and the Empire 8 tournament when they are online.
