Oneonta’s Riley Lorenz is playing his college tennis at Florida Institute of Technology. Riley is majoring in Mechanical Engineering while playing college tennis for the Division II Florida Tech Panthers. Riley did not play in the opening match of the spring season – a 7-2 loss to #12 Flagler, but he got his first win of the spring season in the teams 5-4 win over Alabama-Huntsville. Riley played #6 singles and beat Marcos Rivera 6-2, 6-3. Next, Florida Tech kicked off Sunshine State Conference play with a 9-0 shutout of Eckerd. Riley won 6-0, 6-2 over Madison Durley. When FIT played 2nd ranked Barry University, Riley was the only player to win in singles. Frm the FIT web site – “Riley Lorenz … improved to 3-0 on the spring after pulling out a 2-6, 6-4, 14-12 win over Kevin Sielmann at No. 6 singles.” Riley got his first loss of the spring season when FIT hosted 18th ranked St. Leo College. He played 5th singles and lost 6-4, 6-2 to Antonine Raffaelli. He also played #2 doubles with Michael Schmidt and lost 8-4 to Gonzalez-Tarrio/Raffaelli. The last February match for FIT was a 5-4 victory on the road over St.Thomas University. Riley played #2 doubles with Kermit Strachan – they lost 9-7 to Arturo Romero and Esteban Serrano. In singles, Riley took on Mario Awad and won 6-3, 6-4. Florida Institute of Technology started the spring season unranked. They started March ranked 47th in the country and 10th in the region. Riley did not play against #8 Rollins – FIT lost 7-2 due to an illness. He also did not play in a 5-4 loss to Aquinas; a 7-2 win over Ohio Northern; a 6-3 loss to Southern Indiana; a 7-2 win over Southern New Hampshire and a 6-3 loss to #37 Northwood. Riley was back for the match against Bentley – FIT won by an 8-1 score. He played #6 singles and fought for a 4-6, 6-1, 10-8 victory. Riley did not play the doubles.
