Boys States – Live from the Billy Jean King National Tennis Center

The NYSPHSAA Boys Tennis Tournament got underway at 1:00 today at the National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows. The singles went out on the courts first, followed by the doubles. The results are listed here in the order that they went out.
Rohin Bose (Bethlehem) lost to Christin Waldron (Beacon) 6-1, 6-0. Rob Schmitz (Scotia) was defeated by Mike Rusk of Corning 7-5, 6-1. Albany Academy’s Stefan Kuhar took the first set in his match against Emerson Kelby of Oneonta by a score of 7-5 and went on to take the second set 6-2. Stefan, Rob and Emerson are teammates on the New York Junior Buzz 18 and under team tennis team. The doubles teams of Ned Faist/Jon Finn of Niskayuna ran into the top seeded team of Matty Barry and Ethan Bogard of Long Beach High. Barry/Bogard won 6-1, 6-1. Next up was Nick Mashuta and Nick Deluke of Bethlehem. Mashuta and Deluke lost 6-1, 6-0 to a strong team from Westhampton made up of John Spila and Cooper Lacetera. The lone doubles win for Section 2 was Eric Kopff and Austn Malerba of Guilderland. They beat McKenna Hunter and Adam Khater of Northeastern Clinton Central 6-1, 6-0. Play re3sumes tomorrow morning at 8:00. Stefan will most likely play right at 8:00 as they are starting play with the Main Draw singles, followed by the Main Draw doubles and the Consolation singles and doubles. The other Northern Region singles player in the draw was Jake Crawford who won his first round match. Look for updates here.
