Here is an update on the Girls of the Northern Region.
Our top ranked 18 and Under Girls player is none other than Section 2 Champion Cat Crummey. Cat’s year includes a win over #33 Jamie Campisi at last year’s Queensbury Open which she followed up by winning the Level 1B Capital Challenge at Tri City – both in singles and in doubles – with Shaker teammate Molly O’Connor. Cat is ranked 50th in the 18 and unders, followed by Julia Guignard of Lowville at #96. Cat’s Shaker teammate Shannon Mukerji is next in line at #109 while Niskayuna‘s Emily Laurilliard is 117th. Rounding out the top 200 players from the Northern Region are Ella Lindholm-Uzzi (Germantown) #151; Claire Schmitz (Emma Willard) #171, Catherine Jenkins (also of Shaker) #174 and Gabriela Peda of Guilderland at #194. Cat Crummey will be playing her college tennis locally at the University at Albany – Emily will be at RPI – Julia will be at Stevens Institute of Technology.
The Girls 16 and Unders starts with Claire Schmitz and Shannon Mukerji again. Claire is ranked 35th, Shannon is 65th. Claire has an overall record of 26-18 in sanctioned matches and has won the President’s Cup Tournament at Capital Region and a Level 1B tournament at Gold’s Gym in DeWitt. Her best win of the year came in the Queensbury tournament where she beat #41 Ariel Haber 6-3, 6-0. Claire often plays doubles with Ariel. Academy of the Holy Names Hannah Friend is #156. Albany Academy‘s Mia DiCaprio is 183rd, while Niskayuna’s Nisha Detchprohm is #193.
At #60, Nisha is the highest ranked Northern Region player in the Girls 14 and Unders. She is followed by teammate Lesley Santos – 123rd. Loudonville’s Mia Fallati is 128th. Julianne Melita is bound to move up a few spots after winning this weekend’s Level 2 Open at Colonie Country Club. Victoria Pellegrino of Whitesboro rounds out the top 200 players at #195. Nisha had a win over #43 Courtney Ollis in the Albany Sectional at Tri City. The scores were 6-3, 6-7(4), 10-3. She had an even better win over #39 Tamara Cominsd at the President’s Cup tournament in an exciting 7-6(3), 7-6(4) match. She also beat #83 Sasha Shmyatsky 6-1, 6-0 in the same tournament.
In the Girls 12 and Unders, Christina Lau of Niskayuna is #78; Elise Wagle, also of Niskayuna is #127; Sarahj Corasanti of New Hartford is #132; Julia Laurilliard of Niskayuna is #160 and Jaqueline Bornt of Wynantskill is #184.
Elise and Julia are also ranked in the 10 and Unders – 17th and 49th respectively. Elise has a 16-3 record overall in tournament play this year. The other ranked 10 and under players are Elizabeth Siebeneck of Saratoga Springs; Christine Lee and Anika Govindarajan – both of Schenectady.
