We have done the girls, now it’s time for the boys. We have quite a few players from the Northern Region who are ranked in the top 200 in the Eastern Section in their age group.
Alex and Ian Van Cott of Unadilla and his twin brother Ian lead the way for the Northern Region in the Boys 18 and Unders. Alex is ranked 5th in the Section and Ian is ranked 16th. The Van Cotts will be playing college tennis at Tulane in the fall. Tulane was voted on as having the third best recruiting year for a mid major. Sectional Champion Stefan Kuhar is ranked 54th, he will be trying out for the Dartmouth team next fall. Stefan was seeded 7th at states. Rohin Bose is the only junior in the top 100 of the Boys 18’s. Rohin ranked 65th – was captain of the Bethlehem team this past season. Jake Crawford of Clinton, NY is ranked 77th and will be playing for the University of Chicago in the fall. Scotia’s Rob Schmitz – the sectional finalist – will be playing his college tennis at St. Lawrence. Rob was ranked 108th. Emerson Kelby is the youngest Northern Regional player in the Boys 18 top 200. Emerson is going into his junior year at Oneonta High School. Niskayuna’s Erwin Lin rounds out the top 200 with a ranking of 176th.
The top Northern Regional player in the Boys 16 and unders is Josh Jachuck at #49. Josh is heading to Rochester in the fall to start his college tennis career at the University of Rochester. Doane Stuart’s Lars Olson is the next ranked player at #149. Lars made it to the quarter finals at Sectionals. Next is Alex Fedorov (#192) of Guilderland followed closely by Matthew McCall of Sherill, NY (#195)
In the Boys 14 and Unders the top area player is Albany Academy’s Michael Haelen at #66. He is closely followed by Alex Fedorov who is 76th in the 14’s – in addition to his 16’s ranking. Niskayuna’s Jason Tang is the only other top 200 player from or area. He is ranked 164th.
Ronan Jachuck – Josh’s younger brother is ranked 17th in the 12 and Unders. Ronan just came back from a National Open where he did very well. Max Benson of Albany Academy follows Ronan at #28. We will have more on Max and Ronan in a future post when we will cover local players with National Rankings. Jon-Robert Corasanti of New Hartford has improved his game a lot in the last year and is currently 77th in the Eastern Section. Conners and Aidan O’Brien are the only two brothers from our region that are ranked in the same age group. Conners is ranked 103rd and Aiden is ranked 149th. Evan Wagle of Niskayuna is also ranked. He is 134th.
Ronan is also ranked 1st in the Boys 10 and Unders, although he concentrating solely on 12 and under tournaments now. Elijah Poritzky is 96th in the 10 and unders. Eli is from Greenfield Center.
