Are they playing for country or are they playing for the money?

I always was proud of all the American players who took the time to play for their country but now, I’m not so sure I am that proud.  Are they really playing for their country or are they playing for the money? Reports are that the USTA gives up to $100,000 per Davis Cup tie for the American players.    If that’s so, is it a good use of the USTA’s money? I didn’t get any direct payroll information but I did see this post and other like it:

“I know when the USA played Zimbabwe a couple of years ago, the American players were paid $100,000 for the tie.” from the Men’s Tennis Forum.

What’s your thoughts? Do you think $100,000 per tie is a proper use of the USTA’s money?
