(Latham, NY) The curtains opened on a new season and the Danes didn’t disappoint the good tennis crowd that turned out at Tri-City Tennis and Fitness. They avenged a 4-3 loss to Marist from last year with a win by the same score. It was a solid triumph for the Danes, one that conceivably could have been 6-1. But a couple of close matches went to the Red Foxes after freshman Cat Crummey had clinched the match for the good guys with her 6-3,6-3 victory at #4 in her home club.
The doubles started out with Marist in control at #3 and UAlbany in complete control at #1 (Scott-Lopez). So it looked like the doubles point would come down to #2, freshmen Crummey and Mireille Hermans (Netherlands). The Dane frosh started a bit slowly and found themselves down 3-2. But from that point they reeled off an impressive six straight games to take #2 doubles. Kirsten Scott (Alberta, Canada) and Rocio Lopez (Madrid, Spain) soon followed suit at #1 and the Danes won the always important doubles point to go up 1-0.
