(Albany, NY). Wiped out by winter storm Nemo five days ago, the UAlbany and Fairfield tennis teams will try it again on Valentine’s Day in the UAlbany bubble. The match starts at 3:00 p.m. with doubles, followed by singles around 4:00 p.m. Played on only 3 or 4 courts, the match is expected to last at least until 6:00 p.m., possibly as late as 8:00 p.m.
Irene Santos is expected to make her Albany debut with countrywoman Rocio Lopez in doubles, followed by singles. But the enthusiasm of having Santos join the roster has been tempered by the loss of co-captain Kirsten Scott who will have to sit this one out due to injuries suffered in her three hour singles marathon on Sunday vs. Providence. She and roommate Cheryl Kukkonen (broken wrist) will be cheering loudly.
The Danes are 1-1 on the spring.
Coach Graham: “This promises to be an entertaining and competitive match. Last year we narrowly lost 4-3 after being up match point in a couple of matches that we eventually dropped. The bubble gives us a bit of a home court advantage, but we are still going to have to go out and win this match. Fairfield fought really tough last year and I expect we’ll see that again tomorrow.”
